All That Heaven Will Allow

Bruce Springsteen. The Boss. With a great band…especially the E Street drummer, Max Weinberg. Shocker I’d appreciate the drummer in this whole situation…

Springsteen’s song, “All That Heaven Will Allow” speaks to living one’s life up to the absolute limits of God’s blessings. In, as he usually does, an unassuming yet profound way, he encourages an appreciation of it all. An appreciation of life. Your life.

Well, Bruce probably didn’t base his lyrics on your life, exactly. But as I listen to his words they make me think about my level of appreciation for all that is good in my life. Do I appreciate all the great things God has brought my way in such a manner as to not appreciate them any more if I possibly tried? Indeed, on some days, we all may need a little reminding that God has allowed much to be good in our lives. Maybe now more than a year ago, say.

So, what is good in your life? What do you wish to experience right up to those limits that God Himself might allow? Love, Joy, Peace, maybe? Health? The list might get pretty long at some point, right? Make that list, even if it’s just mentally. Think on it often. Appreciate the list on Thanksgiving Day. I mean, appreciate it always!

Others, or even yourself might have caused trouble along the way, but God saw you life as He has redeemed it and said, “It is good.”

One final thought…if you’re familiar with the band the Newsboys, upon reading the above-listen to their rendition of the song “Forever Reign.” I mean, God is good when there’s nothing good in you and I, amen?

Through Thanksgiving and beyond, Keep Calm & Reflect (Appreciate) On…
